Weeks in this month

Key changes this month

  • Weeks 17–18: skeleton hardens and the nervous system matures.
  • Quickening (first felt movement) usually occurs between 18–22 weeks — later for first pregnancies.
  • Anatomy ultrasound (level II) at 18–22 weeks — heart, brain, kidneys, spine.

Frequently asked questions this month

  • Is it abnormal if I haven't felt the baby move yet?

First-time parents often feel quickening around week 22; subsequent pregnancies tend to be around week 18. Anterior placenta or body type can delay perception further. Call your provider if you reach 24 weeks without any felt movement.

Recommended actions this month

  • Book the level II anatomy scan within the 18–22 week window.
  • Note the date you first felt movement — useful information at your next visit.
