Fetal development

  • Ear bones and nerves mature so hearing begins.
  • Bones harden and become more visible on ultrasound.
  • The fetus moves actively in the amniotic fluid.

Maternal changes

  • Nasal congestion and gum bleeding (pregnancy gingivitis) can begin.
  • The bump rounds out more visibly.

Recommended checkups

  • If amniocentesis is indicated, it is typically performed between weeks 15–20.
