Fetal development

  • All major organ systems are formed and beginning to function.
  • Nails start growing on fingers and toes.
  • The placenta takes over most hormone production.

Maternal changes

  • Morning sickness may start to ease.
  • The uterus is large enough to rise out of the pelvis.

Recommended checkups

  • Schedule the first-trimester screen (NT scan, weeks 11–13) and NIPT if desired.
