Fetal development

  • Webbing between fingers and toes begins to separate.
  • The heart starts dividing into four chambers.
  • Liver, kidneys and lungs begin forming.

Maternal changes

  • The uterus is now about the size of a grapefruit, causing pelvic pressure.
  • Weight may stay the same or dip slightly because of nausea.

Recommended checkups

  • You will likely have the first comprehensive prenatal appointment — blood work, urinalysis, and a pap smear.
