Fetal development

  • The head accounts for roughly half of total body length.
  • Hands and feet take a clearly human shape.
  • Hiccups and stretching movements begin.

Maternal changes

  • Weight gain begins (roughly 0.5–2kg by now).
  • Appetite often returns as nausea fades.

Recommended checkups

  • Nuchal translucency (NT) ultrasound plus maternal blood test screens for Down syndrome and other chromosomal conditions.
