Fetal development

  • The embryo is now called a fetus.
  • The tail bud disappears, giving a more human shape.
  • The heart can beat up to about 170 bpm.

Maternal changes

  • Breasts grow further and areolas darken.
  • Mood swings can be strong due to hormonal shifts.

Recommended checkups

  • If you are considering non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), it is typically available starting at week 10. Discuss timing with your OB.
